I play, sing backups and am musical director in The Natural Women Show. This project celebrates the music of icons Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight. All videos on our YouTube channel are productions of mine. I’m proud that as of the writing of this text we have in excess of 15 000 views between all my posts!
There have been many cool hi-lights in the last year or so; one was getting a compliment from Don Covey’s son Antonio for covering his dad’s song Chain Of Fools. It’s lots of fun recreating the Pips arrangement for the Gladys Knight version of Heard It Through The Grapevine; and Aretha’s arrangement of Spanish Harlem. There’s nothing quite like the sound of a Hammond organ, and Émile d’Eon’s Organ Trio performs mostly original material that is inspired by those who were pioneers in the genre of Jazz and R&B organ stylings as well as current trend-setters. Some of our covers include Jack McDuff’s The Vibrator and Joey Defrancesco’s arrangement of James Ingram’s 100 Ways. Here’s a taste of the “outro” on Tyler Viaene’s original Layover. The videos found in this portion of the page are ones I created with very few forms of “tech”, as I was learning on-the-fly i.e. mixing audio, adjusting lighting etc…There’s lots to know! Everyone seems to have a video project they did during the lockdowns. I produced a few videos for Flat 6. Although the band had some shows before that time, we pooled our resources, wrote, arranged and recorded some original songs by guitarist Émile (d’Eon). I always look forward to playing with this great group of musicians! It was a pleasure bringing our four videos to life as it was my first opportunity to mix audio and video for this type of a group.
