Tracking Chris Smith’s ONE WORLD
Tracking remotely is a lot of work but it has its benefits. I recorded the bed-tracks in a space with wooden floors and a fairly high wooden ceiling. I ran Lew’s bass direct and mic’d up Chris’s guitar amp in order to have a guide as we played down each song.
My set-up.
… I used what sounded right for the album’s song styles.
…overheads with the warmth of the pine ceiling and wooden floors translated well to the raw tracks.
… Don’t try this with anything but a cheap mic. Having been presented with a scenario where I was short an additional stand and/or clamp; so I improvised.
…Chris and Lew listening to playback.
…Break-time at the clubhouse, on the Haliburton River.
…some cool cover art.
I am a lover of vintage instruments from the 50s, 60s and 70s. If you’re looking for a vintage sounding drum track for your next project; let’s discuss your creative concept. I can come to your favourite studio, or I could do the tracking for you. Get a vintage tone with a modern touch!
1965 Ludwig Super Classics…the same kit (dif. colour) that Hal Blaine used with The Wrecking Crew.
… this is also the same model Ringo and Michael Shrieve (Santana/Woodstock) used.
1967 Rogers Covington Era Swingtime set up.
…think Al Jackson Jr. (Stax/Otis Redding/Al Green/Bill Withers 1st album)
Gretsch (Stop Signs)
…”Get your Tony on”…”Get your Elvin on”…Motown etc… “That great Gretsch sound!”
1980s Pearl DLX
…my “Jeff Porcaro” setup.

I’m playing a fair amount of guitar these days. “Hit ’em with the rhythm!”
